City of Heroes® Issue 12: Midnight Hour Announced

The stars of this issue are The Midnight Squad, a clandestine organization who will take players back to ancient Roman times where mystery awaits and secrets will be revealed. Further changes include numerous 'Quality of Life' improvements such as an overhauled Contacts display and eight new configurable power trays; The Hollows zone receives a significant redesign; and Powerset Proliferation will see over twenty existing powersets made available to additional Archetypes, increasing the possibilities available for character combinations.
THE MIDNIGHT SQUAD

JOIN THE MIDNIGHT SQUAD (LEVELS 10 - 20)
The clandestine organisation of mystics, scholars and mages, known only as the Midnight Squad, seeks to rebuild its numbers since the devastating assault of the Rikti Invasion. The Midnighters hold a secret that could bring the alien assault to an end, but without the help of the Heroes of Paragon City™ it will remain Lost forever.

NEW ROMAN-STYLE ZONE MAPS (LEVELS 35 - 50)
The Midnighters hold many secrets within their walls, including a highly coveted Ouroboros crystal, enabling them to travel to the far reaches of time. There is a familiar threat in an ancient land and the Midnighters need the help of both Heroes and Villains to stop it. Players step foot upon the ancient land of the Roman Cimeroran Peninsula, where they battle deadly creatures, defend an ancient city and ultimately come face to face with the enemy of time itself. Throughout this journey players uncover the mysteries of power and the origins that guide them today.

UNLOCK ROMAN-STYLE ARMOR COSTUMES
Through their accomplishments, players unlock the new Roman themed armour costume set.

VILLAIN EPIC ARCHETYPES
Infiltrate the Arachnos organisation from within! Upon reaching level 50, Villains unlock two new Epic Archetypes; Wolf Spiders and Blood Widows. They have their own unique storyline and missions, power combinations and costume sets. Branching powersets allow the Wolf Spider to specialise as either a Bane Spider or Crab Spider and the Blood Widow chooses from the Fortunata and Night Widow branches. Each brings with it unique costumes for your Arachnos duties, as well as your newfound role as a Destined One.

Nick Stahl out and Christian Bale says hello to Terminator 4

Well we all know T3 was wack and even with that I did not mind Nick Stahl at all. I guess the studios felt a little different. The fourth movie in the Terminator franchise will reach North American theaters on May 22, 2009, coinciding with the U.S. Memorial Day holiday weekend, distributor Warner Bros. said. Christian Bale will star as rebel leader John Connor in Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins which is scheduled to begin production in the spring in New Mexico. Charlie’s Angels filmmaker McG will direct the movie, which is expected to be the first in a new Terminator trilogy.

When Nick Stahl was asked how he feels about the news he said "I don’t care really, to be honest,” admitted the 28-year-old actor, at Sundance recently to promote “Sleepwalking” and “Quid Pro Quo,” two upcoming indies with decidedly smaller budgets than “Rise of the Machines.” “I don’t have much interest.”

“They said it would be a 50-year-old man, but I guess they reduced the age a little bit,” Stahl said of how the franchise producers had explained the plot to him. “That’s what they told me very early on [in development of the ‘Salvation’ script]. That it was gonna take place further in the future, and I probably wouldn’t be on.”

Discussing the man who will step into Stahl’s role, much as he once did for the legendary Eddie Furlong, the actor said: “I like [Bale] a lot…he’s a little older, and they wanted someone a little older, and also he’s got a name. He’s a big guy now. So, God bless.”

“I love the franchise, and I love the movies,” he continued, “so I’ll probably be seeing the fourth one.”

Gary Gygax Dead at 69

MILWAUKEE (March 4) - Gary Gygax, who co-created the fantasy game Dungeons & Dragons and helped start the role-playing phenomenon, died Tuesday morning at his home in Lake Geneva. He was 69.

Phil Harrison now with Atari

Well what do you know they were right: Phil Harrison, former president of Sony's game development studios, has joined the parent company of ailing game publisher Atari to focus on the development of online gaming.

Infogrames, owner of the Atari brand, announced today that Harrison has been appointed President and "Directeur Général Délégué" of the Lyon, France-based company.

Today, Infogrames said that Harrison, one of the founding members of the PlayStation team at Sony, will "grow the Atari brand into a leading online game company." His duties will be similar to his last position within Sony: Overseeing game development studios both internal and external while "attracting world-class design and development talent" to Atari.

Blue Dragon Anime

VIZ Media announced that it has secured the license for the Blue Dragon anime adaptation of the Xbox 360 roleplaying game of the same name. The television series has been airing in Japan since April 7. The license includes television, home-video, and non-video-game merchandising rights.

The original game is the first time that Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi, Dragon Quest character designer and Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama, and Final Fantasy composer Nobuo Uematsu have collaborated since the classic roleplaying game Chrono Trigger.

Atari Rumors

There is a big announcement coming from Atari Monday morning. It may be that the rumor of Sony president Phil Harrison is leaving the company an going to Atari. As of right now it is just a rumor but we here at Da Hood Geek will keep you posted.
