David Tennant as the Riddler

Everyone knows I can not get enough of Doctor Who, damn I love that show. It was reported that playing Batman's arch nemesis The Riddler would reportedly be a "boyhood dream come true"Riddler for David Tennant. "I'd love to play the Riddler and be bad to Batman," the Doctor Who star told the press .

Explaining his love of the 1960's television serial that starred Adam West as the caped crusader, Tennant added: "It was so much fun to watch. I thought The Riddler was one of the most freakish villains, especially with that wild laugh.

"Every morning there would be a new villain - Eartha Kitt as Catwoman with that gurgling meow, Cesar Romero as the frenzied Joker and Burgess Meredith's 'quack-quacking' penguin."

9/11 Changed Science Fiction

Cloverfield has everybody talking about the way science fiction is dealing with the aftermath of the terrorist attacks of 9/11, but that giant monster movie is hardly the first SF creation to tackle terrorism, high-tech surveillance, and governments run amok in the post-9/11 era. As the United States has cracked down on civil liberties at home, and invaded nations abroad, in the name of national security, a crop of futuristic and fanciful tales have sprung up to satirize and justify "the war on terror." These tales generally deal with one of five crucial post-9/11 themes, which we've enumerated (with examples) for you below.

Chloe Sullivan in DC?

Clohe_20060919230824 DC Comics had announced in December that they would introduce a popular character from the TV series Smallville into mainstream comics continuity. In fact, the synopsis, at DCComics.com, still reads as follows for Superman #674, due out March 12:

"Clark and Lois...[have] relatives coming to visit--namely, a certain blonde cousin of Lois's from Smallville. It all sets the stage for a major new addition to the cast in next month's anniversary issue! Can you say 'Chloe Sullivan'?"

Judging from comments made by DC's VP Dan DiDio, it appears that the plan fell through.

"Chloe is an exciting character on the television show, and we had hoped to work her into DC continuity," DiDio told Newsarama last week, "but unfortunately, the stars did not align properly, and even though we had announced it, she will not be appearing in any of the issues of Superman or Action Comics."

Portrayed by blonde cutie Allison Mack, Chloe Ann Sullivan was created expressly for the WB's Young Superman series Smallville. She served as a "Lois Lane archetype"--the show's dogged investigative journalist--and has existed independently of the canonical DC Universe.

Chloe's "anointing" as an official DC character had been long sought by die-hard fans, and excitement was building toward Superman 674. As some 'Net posters have commented, this event was getting them to buy Superman comics again. Others, however, were a bit relieved by the latest announcement.

But, while there are no official details as to why the "stars did not align properly," fans are theorizing that Busiek's new version of the character may have strayed too far from the model, or even that Smallville creators Al Gough & Miles Millar pulled the plug on the idea.

World of Warcraft Hits 10 Million Subscribers

Blizzard Entertainment says that total World of Warcraft paying subscribers have reached 10 million worldwide, by far the most popular MMORPG ever made.

"It's very gratifying to see gamers around the world continuing to show such enthusiasm and support for World of Warcraft," said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment, who is often cited as one of the most influential individuals in technology.

According to Blizzard, there are 2 million paying subscribers in Europe, more than 2.5 million in North America, and a whopping 5.5 million in Asia. World of Warcraft is currently available in seven languages.

Since debuting in North America on November 23, 2004, the MMO has been criticized for being highly addictive. An expansion pack, The Burning Crusade, was released last year, and development of the game's second expansion, Wrath of the Lich King, is underway and expected for release later this year.
